Religious Education Overview and Skills

We believe Religious Education (RE) gives children the chance to develop in many ways:

  • spiritually
  • morally
  • socially
  • culturally

RE teaches about moral values and the differences between right and wrong. We want children to leave our school feeling they can question the purpose of life. They should reflect on their own beliefs and understand other’s faiths and traditions. Our RE themes link into the whole school ‘Jigsaw’ approach which we use in our PSHE curriculum. Each term all the children, from Early Years up to Year 6, work on the same theme.

The children progress their skills as they move through the school, please download our Skills Progression document for further information. They learn by exploring a wide range of key questions. There are units on Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism. There are SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) opportunities within each unit.
