English overview and skills

In education and in society English has an important place. We need language skills to communicate, to gain knowledge and to fully play our part in society.

In school, we follow the National Curriculum for English. We aim for our pupils to develop a strong command of spoken and written English. With high-quality texts we develop reading skills for life and inspire pupils to read widely for enjoyment.

We teach spelling, punctuation and grammar in a way that has purpose and meaning. Our stimulating 'learning journeys' bring together learning across the curriculum. They develop children’s reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
