Computers are now part of everyday life. For most of us, technology is essential both at home and at work. Children must learn 'computational thinking' to be ready for the workplace and able to join in this digital world.
The three focuses of the modern computing curriculum are:
- digital literacy
- computer science
- information technology
This gives pupils the foundation skills, knowledge and understanding of computing they will need for the rest of their lives.
They will learn:
- how computers and computer systems work
- to design and build programs
- to develop their ideas using technology and create a range of content
We teach computing skills and tools children need on a weekly basis, following the 'Switched On Computing' scheme of work. All sessions include online safety. This ensures that children have all the tools they need to deal with any online issues.
For more information on what happens in each year group, see our Skills Progression plan.
