Art and Design Overview

Children can express their creativity through art. We encourage pupils to build up key skills using their sketchbook. This allows them to observe changes in their work over time, and make reflections. In KS2, children are encouraged to record their reflections in writing. Before creating a final piece, the children will develop a specific skill.

We follow the National Curriculum for Art, exploring:

  • painting
  • drawing
  • 3D sculptures

We develop skills in these areas through focusing on:

Creativity – expressing themselves through a variety of media.

Techniques – creating art in different ways and using different materials.

Observing – noticing what they see in front of them.

Knowledge – learning to understand techniques used by artists.

Evaluation – making choices about their work and reflecting as they go.
