History overview and skills

All our year groups can enjoy learning history. Our ‘learning journeys’ cover a variety of topics and encourage high quality writing. We offer children an exciting insight into world history. They learn aspects of ancient, non-European cultures, as well national and local history. Topics include:

  • Stone Age
  • Great Fire of London
  • Romans
  • Ancient Egypt
  • Aztecs
  • World War Two

Our local community is important to us. We celebrate its fascinating history, from pirates and smugglers to the rise of the RNLI.

We like to ensure that history is not just isolated lessons based on facts and dates.  Our aim is to excite children's natural curiosity while they develop a variety of skills. As we explore different topics pupils learn to ask questions, analyse and investigate to be creative.
