Design & Technology Overview and Skills

Design & technology is an exciting and practical subject. At Telscombe Cliffs Community Primary School, pupils use their creativity and imagination to design and make products for themselves, and others based on design criteria. In Key Stage 2, innovation and enterprising skills are developed whilst children apply their knowledge from other subjects such as mathematics, science, computing and art.

At Telscombe Cliffs, we follow the advice and guidance of the National Curriculum for design and technology which ensures that when designing, making and evaluating projects, the user, purpose, functionality, design decisions, innovation and authenticity are carefully considered.

Cooking and nutrition are given paramount importance at Telscombe Cliffs. All children, from Nursery to Year 6, are taught discrete cooking lessons for the duration of a term where they learn about where food comes from: food preparation, nutrition and how to use techniques such as cutting, peeling, grating, chopping, slicing, mixing, spreading and kneading.
